On Nov 7th, ARHS hosted our first CNA Boot Camp – a special day of focus on our CNAs. Forty-five CNAs from Watauga Medical Center and Cannon Memorial Hospital came together for the day.

Guest speaker, Cherri Timmons, Certified Health Coach, talked with them about self-care to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue. President and Chief Nursing Officer of Watauga Medical Center Kim Bianca spoke about the history and importance of the CNA role.

Prizes were given out all throughout the day, attendees participated in team building exercises to promote teamwork, and enjoyed breakfast and lunch together.

For the second half of the day we did hands on training to make sure that all CNAs are using standard work in their practice with patients.  At the end of the day, we played a Jeopardy Game to see what we had learned.

We had glowing evaluations for the day from the staff, and our CNAs feel prepared for the challenges ahead of them.
