One of the effects of the pandemic can be seen in growing food insecurity across the nation, and even in our own community. Feeding America estimates food insecurity in NC will increase 18-19%.
If you have the capacity to give nonperishable food items or basic essentials, drop by the second floor of the WMC parking garage and place them on the shelf. If you need food, pick up some!
Over time, we have begun to get a better understanding of what people are taking and things not being taken. From our understanding, the items most people have taken and need are:
- Microwavable Meals
- Mac and Cheese
- Peanut Butter
- Personal items such as shampoo, tooth paste, tooth brush, deodorant, toilet paper, paper towels, cloth COVID masks, diapers, etc.
Any food items not taken such as can vegetables and fruit will be donated to the Hunger and Health Coalition.
Tax deductible donations to the Employee Food Pantry can be made through the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation, which operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution. To make a donation, call the Foundation at (828) 262-4391 or send a check through interoffice mail with “Employee Food Pantry” in the subject line.
